If you would've taken the trouble to read through the very impressing guide Epinephrine and Jenosavel have worked on then you would see that what you just wrote is utterly untrue.
The way your pet evolves is not automatically linear. You can still make a Hearty from an Aggressive one or a Dire from a Playful one. It will take you considerably longer than to train it linear but it's not impossible.
On-topic.
Nice idea but most unlikely to be implemented.

Just do /petname with no name and it'll reset itself, then rename your pet when you find out.

It'd be an easier solution to the slight demand of a bigger variety of pets...but then again I agree with the whole "this isnt pokemon" idea...a spider evolving into a mantis at lvl 15...bleh.

Towards Dire is dmg dealer, towards Hearty is tank. Elder means balanced.
Pets start out balanced, but after lvl 10, they can evolve into Agressive or Playfull. This is dependant and ONLY dependant on wether you or your pet has been doing the most dmg. If you do the dmg and the pet only tanks, it will become Playfull, other way around Agressive. After lvl 15 he evolves again, can again go both ways, dependant on who does most dmg. So if pet does most dmg before lvl 10 and u do most dmg before lvl 15 , it will become balanced, getting a Tank and a Dmg evolution. Hearty is a double Tank evolution and Dire a double Dmg evolution.

Really, this is total stupidity, Hearty, Elder, Die, Aggressive, Playful, those ARE evolutions, take it anymore and its Pokemon Wars, which is not was ANet wants.
